The Emerald Cut Works are made out of thin aluminum sheet pans. Berro made the four sculptures, which are roughly 32 x 23cm in size, in May 2021.
The name comes from their greenish hue and their octagonal shape, which are also seen in emeralds. From afar, the four sculptures seem like large beautifully cut emeralds, but getting closer to them, you will start to realize, that they are anything but emeralds.
Berro works with perspective and color to create an illusion, where he makes cheap everyday objects seem like precious stones. It lets us question our reality and the reason why we consider things as important, valuable, or precious.
